The final weekend of September and the start of October bring offshore racing fans to downtown Clearwater for pre-race activities and then out to Clearwater Beach for the big event, the 9th Annual Super Boat National/Florida Championship.
From 12:00 noon on Friday to 10:00 p.m., downtown Coachman Park on the waterfront is transformed into Race Village. During this free event, power boat enthusiasts can get up close and personal, enjoy great food (fee) and live entertainment. Beginning at 5:00 p.m. a boat parade – and not just any parade but a “super” boat parade flows down Cleveland Street while a block party at 500 Cleveland Street gets underway at 5:30 p.m. Downtown will be rocking.
Race Village becomes a Seafood Festival on Saturday. Hours are from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. Throughout the day watch the waters off of Clearwater Beach. Drivers test their machines between 12:00 noon and 4:00 p.m. Sunsets at Pier 60 in the center of the beach will host a VIP event that evening with vendors, plenty of ice cream and a fireworks display.
Sunday’s Race Village hours are from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. but all the action takes place in the Gulf of Mexico on the west side of Clearwater Beach. The start and finish line are just west of 400 Mandalay Avenue in the center of the island. For the race course map, click here. Three races will be held at 12:00 noon, 1:30 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. with the awards ceremony occurring at 5:30 p.m.
