The Phillies Headed to Town for Spring Training

Make no doubt about it – Phillies phans love spring training and they love their annual pilgrimage to Clearwater and Clearwater Beach.

Here in Florida, we anxiously follow the Phillies’ Twitter and Facebook accounts. While we know the dates the players will report, the dominoes start to fall as soon as we see photos of the team’s equipment trucks being loaded, then pulling away from the stadium and heading south.

We suspect that more than once the Phillies Phanatic has tried to stow away in the hopes of escaping the cold and snow a few weeks earlier.

It won’t be long now. In 2018, the Phillies pitchers and catchers report to Clearwater on Valentine’s Day, February 14th. Carpenter Field Complex, adjacent to Spectrum Field (formerly Bright House Stadium) on Old Coachman Rd. just north of Drew St., is where Phillies phans will find their team busy practicing. The full squad is due in on Monday, February 19th with the first exhibition game slated for Thursday, February 22nd.

As baseball fans know, the spring training experience can provide a once in a lifetime opportunity to get up close to their favorite players and sometimes walk away with an autograph. A bonus is the gorgeous Florida weather – warm temperatures, sunshine and blue skies. Not to mention a chance to spend time on award-winning Clearwater Beach.

One of the phan phavorites beach hot spots is the landmark Palm Pavilion Beachside Grill & Bar on north Clearwater Beach. Here guests can dine on the restaurant’s deck overlooking the Gulf of Mexico or indoors. The Palm features live entertainment daily, too. For details, visit their website’s music calendar; the time the sun sets each day is also noted.
